We are excited to share that the next phase of renovations at The Courses at Andrews will begin on Monday, August 3, 2026.
This work marks an important step toward creating an improved clubhouse, golf course, and overall experience for our customers. While construction will bring some temporary changes, we are looking forward to the improvements ahead and appreciate your patience as the project moves forward.
Clubhouse Renovations
Work will begin with the demolition of both the upper and lower patios. Because of this, the outdoor seating areas serving Griff’s Place will no longer be available after Sunday, August 2.
The exterior phase of the clubhouse renovation is tentatively expected to continue through spring 2027. Griff’s Place and other clubhouse services will remain open to the greatest extent possible throughout construction.
As work progresses, customers may occasionally see changes to entrances, pedestrian routes, seating areas, and normal traffic patterns around the clubhouse.
Golf Course Renovations and Temporary Routing
Golf course renovation work is also underway.
Beginning Monday, August 3, East Course Nos. 1 through 8 and South Course No. 18 will close. Temporary routing will begin on both the South Course and the remaining East Course nine-hole loop.
Updated course maps will be attached to this announcement and posted throughout the facility to help golfers become familiar with the new routing.

Will the East Course remain open?
Yes. The East Course will temporarily operate as a nine-hole loop using South Course No. 1 followed by East Course Nos. 11 through 18.
Can I walk the East nine-hole loop?
Yes. Walking will be permitted on the East nine-hole loop.
What will it cost to play the East nine-hole loop?
Daily fees for one trip around the East nine-hole loop will follow the current twilight rates. Golfers who wish to play the loop twice as an 18-hole round will pay the applicable 18-hole green fee. Cart fees will be charged at the appropriate nine-hole or 18-hole rate. All other golf course rates will remain unchanged.
Will the South Course remain open?
Yes. The South Course will remain available as an 18-hole course using the temporary routing shown on the attached map.
Can I walk the South Course?
Walking will not be permitted on weekends. Due to the distance between the clubhouse and the temporary starting and finishing holes, the South Course will be riding only on weekends. Weekday walking will be limited to afternoon tee times.
Where does the South Course begin and end?
The temporary first tee will be located at the former East Course No. 9. Golfers will use Perimeter Road to travel from the clubhouse to the first tee.
The temporary 18th hole will be located at the former South Course No. 17. Golfers will also use Perimeter Road to return to the clubhouse after completing their round.
Do I still check in at the clubhouse?
Yes. All golfers should continue to report to the clubhouse for check-in before heading to their assigned starting location.
Are any existing tee times affected?
No currently booked tee times are affected by the initial routing change.
How long will the temporary routing remain in place?
The temporary routing will remain in effect until further notice. Additional updates will be shared as construction schedules and future closures are confirmed.
Who is designing the renovated golf courses?
The golf course renovation is being led by 1JN, the golf course design firm founded by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. Mr. Nicklaus has visited the property twice over the past year and is expected to return several more times in the coming months and years as the project progresses.
We could not be more excited to have 1JN lead the redesign of these historic courses. The project is intended to create a modern golf experience that reflects the quality, character, and long-term expectations associated with a signature-designed facility.
What is the long-term vision for The Courses at Andrews?
The long-term vision is to transform the property into a premier golf destination that serves the Joint Base Andrews community, authorized Department of Defense patrons, and visiting golfers for decades to come.
The completed facility is envisioned as more than a collection of renovated golf holes. The project is intended to create a cohesive golf campus with improved course conditions, modern infrastructure, enhanced practice and short-course opportunities, upgraded customer amenities, and a clubhouse experience that better supports daily play, tournaments, events, and the broader military community.
How long will the full renovation take?
The entire renovation is expected to take place over several phases and continue through approximately the end of 2028. This schedule remains tentative and may change based on construction sequencing, weather, site conditions, permitting, material availability, and other project requirements.
Because the work will be completed in phases, course access, routing, and available amenities may change throughout the project. Our goal is to maintain as much golf availability as possible while allowing construction to move forward safely and efficiently.
What will the completed golf facility include?
The current long-term plan is expected to include two fully renovated 18-hole golf courses and a new nine-hole short course, creating a 45-hole golf facility.
The final product is also expected to include modernized irrigation and supporting infrastructure, improved course conditioning, renovated playing surfaces, updated practice opportunities, enhanced accessibility, improved clubhouse amenities, and a more complete experience for daily golfers, tournaments, military events, and special functions.
Specific project elements and timelines remain subject to change as design and construction progress.
How will this position The Courses at Andrews within the Department of Defense?
Upon completion of the renovation, The Courses at Andrews is expected to be positioned as the premier golf facility in the Department of Defense.
Its location at Joint Base Andrews, combined with signature golf course design, 45 holes of golf, modern infrastructure, upgraded amenities, and the ability to support military, ceremonial, tournament, and recreational play, will make the facility unique within the DoD golf portfolio.
The goal is to create a golf property that not only serves the local community at a higher level, but also becomes a destination facility and a standard for what military golf can be.
